Kitchen Project - “Heart of the Home”

Our clients had moved to Louisville from the Asheville North Carolina area and they depended on online reviews to find a design build firm that could help them visualize a way for their new house to serve their family of four. After interviewing several remodeling firms, they realized that Bailey Remodeling was the right fit to identify all the potential issues of their new space and to develop smart and visually appealing solutions.

Their existing kitchen was isolated and cut off from the family room and really lacked functional flow and today’s family lifestyle. The skinny island housed the cooktop which created a dangerous cooking situation and a lack of ventilation. There was wasted space in the form of a hallway off the kitchen and the flooring wasn’t consistent throughout the house. The lack of pantry storage meant they would have to store food in upper cabinets and overflow paper products in the mudroom across the hall.

We successfully installed a beam to allow the kitchen to open to the family room and repurposed the unnecessary hallway into a pantry. In order to make the kitchen cabinetry work, windows along the range wall had to be removed, relocated and a new one created. The newly added bar and open shelving that flanked the hoodvent were great solutions fit the style and functionality they were looking for. New hardwood throughout brought a fresh and updated feel to the space.

An add on to the main project of making the kitchen and family room work better was some adjustments that needed to be made in the master bathroom. Part of an oversized master closet was used to relocated the toilet into it’s own private space freeing up room for a free standing tub.

The 3D renderings really helped our clients see the potential of the new design and helped them be able to make the tough decision to change the window configuration along with different options for adjustments that could be made to the 8’ ceiling.. Extra time was spent making sure all the cabinet details were just right and the final product proved to be worth the effort! The hardwood accent on the ceiling over the island gives nice depth to the space.
